Nestled on the banks of the Burnett River on Quay Street, Alexandra Park offers a playground for all ages under the shade of large trees. Alexandra Park is also home to Bundaberg’s council operated zoo. The zoo was established in 1911 and is one of Queensland’s oldest continuously running zoological facilities. Today, the zoo is home to a compact menagerie featuring exhibits with pint-size monkeys, dingos, lizards, birds and more.

This curious little menagerie is one of Queensland’s oldest zoos, and has been around since 1911. It’s not huge, on the scale of the likes Taronga Park Zoo or Australia Zoo, and you’ll probably only need 30 to 40 minutes to see it in its entirety, but it’s perfectly formed and a good level of care seems to be provided to its ever-changing but small collection of inhabitants.
