Why not go back west , to the furthest point in West Clare for the majestic views of our coastline .
Most westerly point in Clare and a good drive - Carrigaholt is on the way and a good place to dine.
The present Lighthouse was built in 1864 & is 23 metres high. it was automated in 1991. There has been a Lighthouse in Loophead since 1670.
The views from the front and side of the Lighthouse are fantastic . There is also the option of climbing up through the Lighthouse . A small charge applies. There is a nice coffee shop on the left as you approach the road to the Lighthouse
Loop Head The wild unspoiled rugged coastline and most westerly point in Co Clare, Loop Head juts into the Atlantic Ocean pointing Westward. Three villages in the area are Kilbaha, Carriagaholt and Kilkee. A must see are the panoramic views from the top of the lighthouse, the Bridges of Ross, the Church of the little Ark and a boat trip into the estuary to see the bottle-nose dolphins.
