The Grotta dei Cordari is another artificial cavity. It takes its name from the activity of artisanal rope makers, active since medieval times and up until the second half of the 20th century. It is said that the prisoners of the tyrant Dionysius I were locked up in this cave. The poet Philoxenus of Cythera, who contradicted the tyrant by criticizing his lack of poetic talent, was locked up several times in the Latomia of Paradise, where he composed his most famous work entitled Cyclops. However, there is a doubt as to whether it was the Ear of Dionysius or the Cave of the Cordari, since according to the testimonies of Claudius Aelianus, Philoxenus was locked up «in the most beautiful cave of the Latomie» and both of these caves, both for the cutting and due to the colors produced, they are of remarkable beauty
