This two-story stone building, built in 1870, served as a school until 1968. Since 1970 it has been home to the Gilpin History Museum. The museum houses collections related to the history of Gilpin County, with exhibits focusing on life in and the people of Gilpin County from the 1860s to the present. Displays include the Mountain Submarine, a recreated Main Street, the Mining Room, a school room, and other special exhibits related to the county's colorful history.
