Born just about 10 miles from the Tavern in 1929, Mel Jurd became a legend in Wollombi folklore through his various escapades, the most notable of which was his purchase of the Wollombi Wine Saloon in 1957. Taste Dr Jurds Jungle Juice and immerse yourself in the many events during the year.
A 30 min drive through pretty villages and farm land, the historic village of Wollombi is a surprisingly good place to have lunch and spend the afternoon down by the river. The winding back road from Sydney makes this place popular with motor bikes. Take a footy as there is plenty of space in the flood prone areas down by the (dog friendly) pub. Grab an ice-cream from the local store and visit the art gallery. Stop at some wineries on your way back.
