It stands out for its façade with the Doric columns, as well as the elements of Renaissance architecture. It was built by Cretan monks Jeremiah and Lavrentius from the Venetian orthodox Tzagarolon family in the early 17th century. The museum is housed in three halls, and exhibits other than icons, a collection of dwarfs, and miniature samples include objects that have been rescued since the looting of 1821.
