If you like birds, this is the spot to be. All the birds in the area flock here during dry season (December-April) because this is the only place they can find water-- what you end up with is a dense concentration of avian life of all varieties condensed in one spot! Tour operators can ferry you up and down the river in a boat so you can see the wildlife.

It is a sanctuary for neo tropical birds located at the mouth of the murky Tempisque River. A vast network of mangrove-rich swamp, lagoons, marshes, grassland, limestone outcrops, and forest. All of this characteristics make from Palo Verde the nesting of the largest population of birds in all of Central America. You can either go hiking into the different trails or take a boat tour. On this tour you can keep an eye out for beautiful birds and a variety of reptiles. Its a very nice place to visit.
