Ground Zero has special meaning to all New Yorkers. For myself, I lost my husband to 911 cancer so this is a sacred place. The museum is very concise, personally I did not like the new exhibit at the top of the new trade center but you might. Shopping in the new Oculus is opulent and Eataly is a must to chow down on superb Italian fare. My favorite is the Cacio de Pepe, the cheese counter and the alllll the focaccia sandwiches!

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is the country’s principal institution concerned with exploring 9/11, documenting its impact, and examining its continuing significance. Honoring those who were killed in the 2001 and 1993 attacks is at the heart of our mission.
Activities depend on the age of your kids. If they are aware of 9/11 and Ground Zero, a museum visit might be appropriate. If they are younger, you can still walk in the public monument park, look at the two gigantic fountains (the footprint of the WTC), and perhaps visit One World Trade Center for the stunning 360 views
