Its a pretty stone village, full of mining history and is home to the famous blue john gemstone. Plus its a great spot for a picnic, a hike on the ridges of Mam Tor above the village and is also the home to Peveril Castle, the Treak Cliff cavern, Peak Cavern and the Blue John cavern. Plus lots of tea shops and pubs.

Lying in the lee of mysterious Mam Tor, locally known as the 'Shivering Mountain', Castleton is one of the most beautifully-situated villages in the White Peak. Whether you approach through the dramatic limestone gorge of Winnats Pass or from the Hope Valley, you'll appreciate the fabulous views created by its location on the cusp of the Peak District's breathtaking limestone and gritstone landscapes. Whatever the weather, Castleton has something to offer visitors of all ages

Castleton is a quiet village but can be very busy with tourists and day trippers at the weekend . We have six pubs and 1530 restaurant . It is advisable to book in advance if staying at the weekend.

The only place in the world which mines Blue John, a variety of quartz, which is made into unique pieces of jewellery. Show caves, cafes, a castle and a base for great walks in the "White Peak".
