Really Cool fort to explore. This fort played a vital role in the Revolutionary War. Great history Here.
This 200 year old Fort went through two battles, the Revolutionary War and the Civil War and it's located next to my favorite part of the beach where you can watch the cargo ships and Shrimp boats pass through the deep waters on their way to Charleston. It's a cool $3 dollar entrance fee to talk a walk around.
Fort Moultrie is one of my favorite places in Charleston. It is where our state flag was born and also where Charleston and the South Carolina Colony first defended itself against Great Britain. It is also right beside the beach...
The National Park Service explains and preserves the evolution of seacoast defense from one of the first decisive victories in the American Revolution through Work War II.
Go visit Fort Moultrie and its 171 years (1776-1947) of seacoast defense. Get there by car and walk around the park alone or go in office and ask about a guided tour. Also don't miss Fort Sumpter where the civil war began. It's harder to get too(bye boat only) but well worth it. Fort Sumpter tours runs trips out of Patriots Point in Mt Pleasant a few times a day. Great way to see Charleston Harbor also.
