This hiking trail is not terribly long, however it is probably a moderate hike since it is a lot of up hill. Nice little piece of History here in Northeast Al.
Nice little day trip. Hike can be a little hard for someone not use to hiking. Nice little museum.
Named a national monument in 1961 this interesting location provided shelter for various groups for approximately 12,000 years. In the 1950’s this site brought archaeologists who uncovered large quantities of artifacts representing a span of time from roughly 10,000 BC to 1650 AD. This staggering achievement makes Russell Cave one of the oldest rock shelters in eastern United States. Visitors from all over the US and from other countries tour the cave each year.
