In the beautiful Mediaeval Castle of Agia Mavra you can see the church of Agia Mavra. According to tradition, the church was built in the 15th century by Helen Palaiologina who built this church in honor of Agia Mavra who protected her once from the storm. She came to the island for the wedding of her daughter to the Count of Lefkada.
Next to the floating bridge you van see the medieval castle of Santa Maura. You can visit it using the western gate all year long. The visitor can wander through the ruins that mainly date back to the Venetian Rule and visit the small church of Santa Maura that is an idea place for romantic weddings. From the crenels you enjoy the view of the channel, the lagoons and also the huge beach in the northeast of the castle. Both inside and outside the castle, nature continuously changes colors and the historical ruins reveal an aspect of Lefkada that only a few people are aware of.

This medieval castle built by the Franks who occupied Lefkada in 1294 and it protected the whole region from enemies. It is located right before the bridge that connects the island to the mainland.
the castle of Saint Mavra was biult in around 1300 and is situated at the entrance of the island. Inside there is the temple of Saint Mavra built in 1888.
