68-acre park with hiking trails, swings, playground equipment, picnic tables, picnic shelters, benches, a gazebo, fishing in the pond, and grills are available. 12 minutes South of Fox Creek Lodge.
This outdoor recreation spot -- with its playground, several hiking trails, big pond with fountain, pavilions, random sculptures, and seasonal concerts -- is a BIG Gem, an under-used treasure.
fishing pond, kids park and a very amazing hiking trail. It is in the middle of town, but the trail feels totally secluded. One of my personal favorites.
Fish, hike or play in the town's local park. During the late 1800's, Big Gem was the site of one of the largest pig iron furnace in the valley. At one time The Big Gem Cast Iron Furnace produced over 32,000 tons a year of pig iron that were then shipped from Shenandoah Iron Works via the Shenandoah Valley Railroad.
