World famous! In the heart of Honolulu and overlooking Diamondhead! Sections of the beach have man-made breakers creating calm waters for kids. South side (near Queen's Beach) is good for beginner/intermediate surfers. Many catamaran day trips right off the beach (entry/tickets through some of the hotel resorts)
Busy! Lots of shopping and eateries. It’s a small city, but packed with tons to do!
If you're in the mood for some great shopping, here is the most well known place for tourists to see!
Waikiki is given a bad name, but it is really a must see for a first time visitor. It has a beach the length of the neighborhood, anchored at one end by Ala Moana Beach Park and shopping center where there private and commercial harbor for boating and diving is located--and the other end has the zoo and aquarium. Many large and small hotels in between and dining options as well for all budgets. Waikiki is a historic district rich with history--and I recommend taking a walking tour with the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association if they are offering one while you are visiting.
