This church is so beautiful. The outside does not do the building justice. This cathedral is worth a visit. The paintings and artwork are gorgeous. There are so many little rooms and pictures that you need about 20 minutes to walk all around the sanctuary. The church staff are quite nice. Anyone is happy to answer questions. Even if you don't attend a mass, it is worth peeking inside. You don't have to be Catholic to appreciate this sacred space.

5 miles, where Pres. Kennedy’s funeral Mass. See commemoration in floor near altar. For Holy Week Wednesday, they have Tennenbrae which you will never forget. Also, it’s in the shopping district in DC if you want to pop in & say a quick prayer.
The Cathedral is one of the most impressive houses of worship in the United States. Designed by noted New York architect C. Grant La Farge, the Cathedral has been cited “as [having] one of the most beautiful church interiors of modern times.” Its walls are laden with shimmering mosaics suggestive of those found in the renowned churches of Ravenna, Italy.
