THE museum about Spitfire aircraft - developed and built in dispersed sites around Winchester and the south of England
Solent Sky Museum began as the RJ Mitchell Memorial Museum in 1974. Since that time, it has expanded to include all aviation in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight, the region known as the Solent. Although it now houses many aeroplanes, their core is still the Supermarine Spitfire, which was designed and built in Southampton. Hampshire and the Solent region were the centre of the world for aviation research and development between 1910 and 1960. Solent Sky Museum depicts the incredible story of aviation in Hampshire and the Solent region, with more than 20 airframes from the golden age of aviation.
