The USS Constellation is cool to see and a great story in and of itself. It is the only remaining combat ship afloat from the Civil War. But it didn't start out that way. Originally built in 1797 in Fell's Point for the US Navy, it underwent "repair" in 1854 - a brand new ship was built around the original ship using creative budgeting!
While the USS Constellation was one of the first three ships to be commissioned into the US Navy in 1797, this isn't it. This sloop of war is the second Constellation, commissioned in 1854. From 1855 to its decommissioning and transformation into a floating museum in 1933, she's been to the Mediterranean, the western coast of Africa, the Caribbean, and just blasted the sides off of many confederate ships during the civil war.
