I may be biased, but I’ve gotta give credit where credit is due. Picaro, opened by my parents back in 1982, way before the Mission became what it is now, still has a local and genuine neighborhood family feel to it. This was one of the first Spanish tapas restaurants in SF, and has been credited as a pioneer in the whole tapas craze. You can’t go wrong with $10 pitchers of happy hour sangrias. And the prices on the entire menu are ridiculously cheap. There is no better spot to start a fun night out than the front patio on 16th Street, people-watching while sipping sangria and munching on tapas and paella.

Tipps von Einheimischen
Delicious Spanish tapas, $1 raw oysters, crafts of sangria. Lively place, great food, for a good price. Really good for big groups, just make sure you call ahead of time.
Best Spanish food in SF with outside seating. Unforgettable garlic sauce free for the table. Try the garlic shrimp and artichoke tapas.
