The pinnacle of yakitori shops in all of Japan. Bright, polite, and stylish, Chef Ikegawa makes the best skewers—he’s a master of fire. The plump offal items like the shokudou, oukakumaku, and sunagimo—esophagus, diaphragm, and gizzard—have especially amazing flavors and consistencies. Finish with the superb oyakodon or soborodon rice bowls. It’s always booked, but definitely worth a try. On the first of every month, they open up reservations for the next two months, but it quickly fills up while you call them. But since they take reservations at any time, why not try a few days before? You might get lucky if they’ve had a cancelation.
