The Corfu Museum of Asian Art was established in 1928 after the donation of Gregorios Manos' Sino-Japanese collection to the Greek state. Originally called the Museum of Sino-Japanese Art, it has since become a hub for further donations of Asian art, with the collection now consisting of approximately 15,000 works from private collections and individual donors. The museum is a unique cultural institution on the island of Corfu, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the rich artistic traditions of Asia.

The Museum of Asian Art in Corfu is the only museum of this kind in Greece. It is housed in an imposing neoclassical building near Liston promenade, Espianada square, in the Palace of Saint Michael and Saint George. This building was constructed between 1819 and 1824 by the British and initially served as the residence of the British High Commissioners of the Ionian islands. Later, it became the seat of the Ionian Senate, the Ionian Parliament, and the headquarters of the Chivalric Orders of Saint Michael and Saint George (in the mid 19th century), from where it took its name.
