In light of the 2024 Budget Law amendment to Law Decree 50/2017, Airbnb will progressively start collecting and remit Tourist Taxes in all municipalities that impose a Tourist Tax on behalf of short term rental bookings.

Guests will see a separate line item for the Tourist Tax when booking. Airbnb will collect and pay the Tourist Tax directly to the municipalities.

In case of exemptions, Airbnb will refund guests who are entitled to it upon their request through the portal.

You may be responsible for other tourist tax payments and reporting obligations. Please contact your respective taxing authorities or your tax advisor for more information on what these obligations are or if you are unsure how this information applies to you.

How do I know when Airbnb starts collecting and remitting in my city?

Airbnb will be informing Hosts once Airbnb has started collecting in their city. Until then, hosts will need to manage tourist taxes autonomously. You can also easily check whether Airbnb is collecting and remitting in your city by checking the Taxes section of your listing page and simulating a booking of your listing to see if the tourist tax is shown in the price.

How do I know what the category of my listing is?

Hosts are responsible for choosing the appropriate category for their own listing. You can verify the category of your listing in the listings page. Airbnb will not be responsible for any tax collection errors due to the wrong category identified for your listing.

Will my payout be affected?

No, the Tourist Taxes will be paid for by the guest.

How do you know what Tourist Taxes to apply to my listing?

The Tourist Taxes will be determined by the address and property type that you have entered for your listing. Please double check the details of your address in your listings page to ensure you have entered a complete and accurate address for your listing. Airbnb will not be responsible for any tax collection errors due to a typo in the address.

How can I see the amount of Tourist Tax collected on my behalf?
