Actions a Host needs to take

  • Step 1: In order to operate a Short Term Rental (STR) one must first register with the Development Services Department of the City of Addison. The registration form can be found here. Information that the City requires for the application includes:
    • Name, address, phone number and e-mail address of the property owner of the STR property.
    • Verification that the STRl property is the applicant's primary residence.
    • Name, address, phone number and e-mail address of the designated Local Emergency Contact.
    • The maximum number of occupants permitted for the dwelling unit or sleeping room in accordance with Sec. 22-254 (b) of the Code of Ordinances.
    • A submission of a sketch floor plan of the dwelling with dimensional room layout.
    • Site plan/survey of the property indicating maximum number of vehicles that can be legally parked on the property, without encroaching onto streets, sidewalks or alleys; other public rights-of-way or public property.
  • Step 2: The City of Addison may inspect the area of the property that is being advertised as a rental to ensure its compliance with the international property maintenance code.
  • Step 3: On a monthly basis, a host must pay hotel occupancy taxes. If there is no revenue generated the host must still submit a hotel occupancy tax form by the due date. Get more info on he process.

Regulations

On March 12, 2019, the City of Addison  passed a Short-Term Rental Ordinance, requiring owners of STRs to obtain a permit, and renew it annually.

Taxes

Hosts are required to pay hotel occupancy on short term rental stays.  More information about hotel taxes can be found here.
