Whitby is a seaside town, it's historic streets split into an East and West side by the River Esk. On the East Cliff, overlooking the North Sea is the ruined Gothic WhitbyAbbey. West of town is West Cliff Beach, lined with beach huts. The long,sandy beaches have life guarded areas.
