The track starts just a little bit down the road on the left from the cottage which takes you to Porters Pass walking track loop. There are spectacular views and The Grotto canyon are must-see on your visit here.
Google and other maps show this track starting from several streets away, but you don't have to go there to access it the loop. Don't miss Fort Rock lookout.

If you brave a dip in a cold mountains pool under a waterfall, try Empress Falls. The final pool for the Empress canyoning trip, but you can just jump in yourself any time. Jump off the big rocks on the side, it's a deep and sandy bottom.
Prepare to have tourists giving you strange looks though.
Finish you dip with lunch back at Conservation Hut.

Many people miss this little gem at Wentworth Falls.
A short hike from the wentworth falls carpark, through a lovely little canyon and rainforest and down to a secluded lookout perched on the cliff edge. You'll likely have this to yourself as everyone else hoards into Wenthworth falls itself.

Arguably the best bushwalk in the Blue Mountains.
Perched half way up the cliff line, it's spectacular views all the way. Do the loop from Wentworth Falls to Empress Falls, and finish with a bite to eat or icecream at Conservation Hut.
In summer take your swimmers for either Empress Falls, or a detour to the very bottom of Wentworth falls, accessed via some spectacular ladders on the cliff side!
This trail is very popular though, you won't have it to yourself.

The best walk in Blackheath.
Start at the small carpark along Evans lookout road (Neats Glenn carpark) end end at Evan lookout. Take the shortcut track back along the road to the car.
If you hike this at night you might see glowworms on the walls!
There are a lot of steps in this, but it's worth it.
If you are feeling keen, take your swimmers and at the picnic spot down in the canyon, head up into the grand canyon slot itself. A 30m swim (COLD!) will get you into the canyon.
You can also do this as a guided abseil trip with the adventure companies, but you abseil into the slot instead. It's truly spectacular inside the slot!
You'll be exploring a canyon the tourists never see.

An old abandoned rail tunnel is home to thousands of glow worms!
This is not easy to get too, it's 30min up a dirty, bumpy, and pot hole infested dirt road, but it's an actual signposted road and is very doable in a 2WD car when it's not wet.
For the adventurous.

Wentworth Falls is a spectacular multi level waterfall with an adventurous exposed walk (hold on in high wind!) down the middle level which then joins up with the National Pass track.
If you are more adventurous then climb down the ladders on the side of the cliff to the very bottom of Wentforth Falls where you can go for a dip. Far fewer tourists make it this far down.
We don't recommend the Wentworth Falls track as it's in the bottom of the valley with no views. National Pass is much better.

A long way up a dirty and bumpy fire trail, follow the fortress ridge track to the very end, and finish off with a climb down into the creek and a sit in the waterhole perched on the edge of the 100m high waterfall.
Walk back the same way you can in.
Spectacular views along the entire ridge line.

Canyoning is pretty much a summer sport only though, Oct-March, although there are some dry all-year round canyons.
Nicole & Dave recommend Rocky Creek & Twister canyons, a full days adventure, jumping and swimming through a world class sandstone slot canyon! Think of an Indiana Jones style adventure in world heritage listed rainforest.
This is suitable for any active person of reasonable fitness.
Guaranteed the best adventure you'll ever have in the mountains!
For an abseil canyoning trip we recommend Empress Falls Canyon, Grand Canyon, or Serendipity.
For just abseiling, Boars Head is amazing!

The scenic railway is the world's steepest incline railway!
A not to be missed adventure in the blue mountains.
Travel down a scream inducing railway through a tunnel and slot canyon to arrive at breathtaking views of the valley and some great rainforest walks.
If you have to wait to get first in line (very end of the platform), do so, it'll be worth it getting the front seat.
It's a difference experience up and back, so we recommend you do both directions.
Although you can take the sceniscender up or back as well.
Very popular though, avoid crowded peak times on nice weekends.
The rainforest in the drizzle is lovely.
