Secret Creek has a vegan café and restaurant and it is an animal sanctuary/mini zoo that runs breeding programmes for some of our Aussie endangered species such as quolls. They have dingos and emus and other animals. They run tours where you can see them feed the animals. Secret Creek is about 500 metres from my house - a flat easy 15 minute walk

Mount Wilson is a small area hidden away, it has no shops it is a large area full of beautiful manicured gardens most of which are open for public enjoyment, some for a VERY small fee. Mount Wilson is a photographers paradise and is infamous for it's incredible display of colours during the autumn period, attracting hundreds of photographers and other tourists daily. Some of the gardens are over 100 years old! It's a great area to pick your own chestnuts, they are everywhere! Mount Wilson also boats some of our greatest canyon trips (non abseil) and bushwalks.

You can still currently enjoy a very interesting walk around the old station and on through the historic tunnels and down to the old signal stations. The walk offers some quite spectacular views including that of an old sandstone railway bridge.

Parks & Nature
One of the most famous walks in the iconic Blue Mountains region is the glow worm tunnel - it's an old steam train tunnel from the days when Newnes (nearby town) was an active shale mining town. The tunnel is home to glow worms, tiny little slug like creatures that emit fluorescence in the dark.
Access is easy via a dirt road safe for 2 wheel drives. There's a car park with toilets and an easy 3km walk to the tunnel - there's a stunning tree fern filled cavern on the far side of the tunnel, there are other connecting walks you can do. And STUNNING views over the Wolgan Valley. On route to the tunnel is a non-abseil walk through canyon that is a mere 1 hour return walk.

Newnes is famous for it's historical value and relics you can visit as well as boasting some of the most stunning scenery you will see in the entire Blue Mountains region. There are countless bushwalks available, free camping grounds, a river to play around in, more kangaroos than you could ever dream of (hundreds!) and they just sit there posing for your photos. There are also LOTS of wombats which wander around oblivious to humans during the day time. Nature lovers will fall in love with Newnes. It is an hour drive from my home.

Lake Lyell is quite large and offers all manner of water sports including boating. It's the ideal place to cool off on a hot day. There is an entry fee at the main gate/boat ramp whether you be in a car or on foot but there are numerous entry points which do NOT require a fee. These others do not offer sealed roads or sealed boat ramps so a 4WD is needed for launching boat.
