Food Scene
Mount Dora StrEat Corner
Non-chain, great burgers made locally.
Locals come from all over central Florida to visit Sugar Boos. It's only open on Friday-Sunday, and the hours can change without notice, but if you have the opportunity to eat there, you should. Everything is great, the potato salad is great, and I hate potato salad. Baby Back ribs need to be ordered before 11 am, and they are usually ready around 3 or 4. They have outdoor seating, but it's best to call in an order, pick it up, and eat it back at the house. This Ma & Pa shack is serious about BBQ.

You could walk by this place a dozen times and not know its there. But it has an interesting atmosphere, and the owner is usually there to assure you have a great dining experience. They stay open later than most other restaurants in town, and are always willing to cook something for you. Their menu is interesting, and worth a gander. The clientele is friendly, welcoming and fiercely loyal, swing by and see why.

Drinks & Nightlife
This is where the locals hang out. If you want a taste of off-the-path Mount Dora, visit Jeremiah's or the connected McGregor's (which allows smoking inside) for a more raw experience.

This newly opened wine bar is a cozy little slice of heaven. They have music almost every night, and some of the most informed wine enthusiasts I have ever met working there. They usually start getting busy around 7, are packed by 8 and are only open till 9, so get there early.

The segway tours are surprisingly popular. You need to book this in advance. I've never done it myself, so I'm not sure what all the hubub is about, but when I see people cruising around town on those things, they always look like they're having a blast.

Google will tell you the other Publix is closer, which it is, but it's always packed and horrible. If you want a calm, friendly shopping experience go to the Stoneybrook Hills Publix instead. It's only slightly farther away, but traffic is way better so it's actually closer based on time. It also has a liquor store attached.
