This is the best kebab shop in the world - that's not an understatement. If you love piles of authentic, grilled meat, you need to try it. It's literally around the corner from the flat, open late, and is not the place for vegetarians (although it does have a couple of veggie dishes on the menu).

A great modern British neighbourhood restaurant in a comfortable but industrial setting. Set in a cobbled yard behind Dalston's vibey Gillett Square, it's great for an indulgent dinner for two. *NB It moved location recently from Arcola Street - now you'll find it at Stamford Works, Gillett Street*

We love it here, because the food is inspired by great quality fresh produce. The vegetarian dishes are always made with imagination, the wine by carafe is great value, and despite the uncomfortable chairs, it's a lovely place for dinner.

The best place for a coffee and croissant, and just round the corner. They do lovely breakfast pancakes as well as cakes and pastries, and you can take away.

This is just a pub, but a really good one. A friendly, cosy, railway-themed boozer in a picturesque setting, with OUTSTANDING Sunday lunches (including vegetarian and vegan options).

An old-school greasy spoon for fry-ups and not much else. No airs, graces or soft furnishings. If you're in need of a fat, salt and carb fix and you're too hungover to venture too far, it will fill the hole.
