A miserable history for our indigenous people - but a fantastic island for everyone today (if you can afford the ferry trip over...about $80 return). If you come to Perth your trip really needs to include a day trip (or overnight stay) at Rottnest. Make your way to Fremantle and catch the ferry over from there . As of March 16 - Tuesday's had discounted ferry prices. Google for good deals.

Where else can you have a pint and feed kangaroos? Take a 45 minute drive into the John Forrest National Park and get up close with nature. Fantastic for picnicking and hiking and wildflowers in spring fantastic.
