The best thing to do in Vieques is to spend 1 night at the W hotel there. Though it is very expensive (typically about $300/night plus food and drinks) it is a remarkable place set on a very beautiful property The nightly price includes some water activities like paddle boarding but doesn’t include food and drinks. You can get to there by 20 minute flight from SJU (about $125 each way), or drive to Fajardo (1hr drive) and take the ferry which will be $5 round trip, plus parking at Fajardo which is about $15. The ferry does sell out so make sure to arrive early. If you miss the ferry you can always take the plane but it’s an expensive mistake.

Culebra is an islands off of the coast of Puerto Rico worth visiting. You can get there by taking a 20 minute flight from SJU (about $125 each) , or drive to Fajardo (1hr drive) and take the ferry which will be $5 round trip, plus parking at Fajardo which is about $15. The ferry does sell out so arrive early. If you miss the ferry you can always take the plane but it’s an expensive mistake (that we’ve made and hope not to make again). The best thing to do in Culebra is to go for the day, rent a jeep there for $50 and check out all of the different beaches, starting from Playa Flamenco. Make sure to bring towels, sunblock, water, snacks, and bug spray. The restaurants in Culebra are limited.
