Take an original diner, two Greek brothers who think outside the box, add a dash of this and that, and what emerges is an eclectic unique restaurant scene. They offer lunch and dinner, and brunch on Sundays. Great menu and service. Worth a visit.

Iconic and what draws thousands of visitors to Asheville. It is spectacular. Plan to get your money's worth by spending a full day. The gardens are amazing. Lots of trails meander, you can even rent bikes. Lots of restaurant choices, or bring a picnic and sit by the lake.

Another famous iconic sight in Asheville. Beautiful views from the terrace, and a unique one of kind building. They do charge for parking these days (sigh, didn't used to be like this!) so plan to spend a bit of time. A cocktail on the patios at sunset is very beautiful.

The Wedge recently opened a second location at the "Foundation." Set among a dedicated graffiti zone, this place is funky. Next door is 12 Bones, the best barbecue in town. It can be hard to located, but worth it to drive down the dirt drive between graffiti laden buildings. And I do love their beer!

On the way to Hot Springs, stop off for stroll along the Big Laurel River. It’s a level, gravel/rocky trail and if you are up for it, you can hike the full 3 miles out to the French Broad River (just across the railroad tracks). Or you can stroll as far as you like then head back. In the summer when the water is low, bring your bathing suit, lots of great swimming holes, dog friendly (on leash to start but if your dog is ok on trail this is a great hike for them), and really beautiful. If it’s been raining, it’s a whitewater kayakers paradise and you’ll likely see paddlers on the river (and if that’s the case, no swimming!).
