Spot the little white column (in Greek called "kolonaki") on the east side of the square. The story goes centuries back, when the big landowners' properties of Athens where marked with little white columns, "kolonakia", which determined their limits. This column is the last remaining one in Athens and it was found initially at the area of Evangelismos (the Hospital) and transferred to the Filikis Eterias Square, giving the name to our whole neighborhood.

One the most historic and culturally rich squares of Athens. From the ancient times, Roman Emperor Adrian built at this area the Athens water supply installations (in Greek called "dexameni") which obviously gave the name to the square and still used today. They are open to the public only once a year, on January 6th in the morning. In the modern times, during the 19th and 20th centuries Dexameni became the daily meeting point for many of the greatest modern Greek writers, poets, artists and philosophers. You can see the sculpted stone with the head of the great Greek writer Alexandros Papadiamantis (who lived nearby) and the statue of the Nobel prize winner poet Odysseas Elytis.
