Lassen is a great place to visit during the summer's hot days. It's a good 45 minute drive from Redding but definitely worth it! If you're up for the challenge of a longer hike the incline isn't too tough. No dogs allowed in the wilderness areas.

Whiskeytown is another great place to visit in the summer heat. The lake is great for many watersports and there are tons of waterfalls and streams.
