Just a short walk away, near the church at the top of the Hill, this is our local community café; lots of us locally helped to finance and build it. They serve breakfast, lunch, tea, coffee, cakes, etc., and host many evening events. They also have local beers on tap and a choice of wines.

About 30 minutes' walk or 20 minutes on the bus, Pistachios is a great place to go for breakfast on sunny days - or anytime, really. The setting is delightful, with great views over London.

This place is tastefully built into a large railway arch and has a very spacious feel. They also do lovely breakfasts, tea and coffee, and make delicious sourdough bread.

Parlez is in a great location adjacent to Brockley Station. It's an all-day place, for everything from breakfast to dinner, and has a separate bar so you can drop in for a drink.
The atmosphere is friendly, the staff and food are great.

As Indian restaurants go, this one is exceptional. The food is exquisite and the settings is delightful, with greenery everywhere giving a relaxed and natural atmosphere.

This is a welcome addition to New Cross Road, especially as a couple of previous favourites have closed. They have good coffee and a range of other drinks, including fruit and vegetable smoothies. Their breakfasts are varied and tasty too.

Started by a couple of local lads, it produces absolutely delicious pizzas very quickly from Thursday to Sunday, served with a winning smile. You can order on Instagram or just walk up and eat your meal at tables outside the Hill Station café, which also dispenses drinks.

A cheerful, friendly place, The Broca has a range of delicious cakes and pastries, many of them vegan. The drinks are good too, and there are tables and chairs on the street, which has been closed to traffic since the first lockdown. (This is also true for Browns and parlez).

Recently reopened after extensive refurbishment, the Earl offers a warm welcome to a good example of a 'local'. It's a proper English pub, with great food and drink, pub quizzes and occasional live music events. Their traditional Sunday roasts are excellent.

A large, sprawling pub opposite New Cross Gate Station, The Rose has very good food, wine and beer and a comprehensive kitchen, including delicious pizzas. There's a large conservatory and a garden with plenty of cover for bad weather.

Not far from Nunhead Station is Nunhead Cemetery, an atmospheric Victorian cemetery, with some wonderful tombs, graves and monuments. Once you're right inside, it's like being in the heart of the countryside.
