Sightseeing

We LOVE this place! It is less than a mile from our home, and it has fantastic walking trails with views of the river, gorgeous mountains, fern gullies, etc. Has an excellent playground for children and very clean bathrooms. A civil war battle occurred in this area, and they have a little visitor's center that tells the tale of the battle and has artifacts and artillery, etc. that was used.

This beach is at the Battle Run Campground, which is less than a mile from our home. It is extremely clean, with nice bathrooms, volleyball court, place to put in boats and kayaks, etc. Cannot recommend this place enough! You can see through the water to your feet because it's so clean!

This is about 15 minutes from our home. There are plenty of places to hike and see over the New River Gorge, home to the famous Bridge Day where people jump from the bridge (third Saturday in October). There are restaurants there with views of the gorge as well.

This is an outdoor company that offers ziplining, rafting, all kinds of things, and it is about 15 minutes from our home. Check them out - we've done it all - whitewater rafting of both the New and the Gauley Rivers, ziplining - it's all fantastic!

Fayetteville is about 15 minutes from our home. It is a neat eclectic little town with some quaint shops and boutiques, restaurants and very close to the New River Gorge area. Worth checking out!

Food scene

This is a fantastic pizza place. Their salads are HUGE! If you order a small, don't worry - it will fill you up. Large portions on appetizers as well. We love it!

This is a local favorite. We've eaten there several times and have liked everything we got. They have burgers, etc. and fantastic ice cream! They also rent kayaks and paddleboards. Probably about 1/2 mile from our home.

Neighborhoods

This is the closest town. There are many stores and restaurants there. There is a Dollar General 2 miles from our home, and if you turn right off of 129 headed toward Fayetteville, there is a large Dollar General on the left that has produce. Otherwise, you would go about 10 miles into Summersville for Walmart, Lowes, Tractor Supply, Big Lots, tons of restaurants, a movie theater and other stores. Be careful driving to Summersville and watch speed changes on the road as there's a speed trap if you don't slow down to the 50 mph for a little blip in the road!
