A beautiful whitewashed Andalusian village set amidst the majestic mountains of the Sierra Almijara, with its Moorish roots, evident in the style of the architecture, with its winding, narrow cobbled streets and ancient squares, spend time wandering around the village & discover its magical tranquility.
The Heart of the village is dominated by its 16th Century Church of La Asuncion which is surrounded by the delightful Plaza Almijara with its street cafes & restaurants.
Two further plazas can be found further up the village, Plaza Vendemia, where a small number of bar /restaurants are located, and it smaller counterpart, Plaza del Carmen nestled in the maze of narrow streets , where two lively local bars are located. (Cafe Bar Chico, Bar David), both serve great tapas.
Competa village has a large municipal swimming pool, and sports hall for indoor sports such as badminton, as well as paddle and tennis courts, hire-able at a small fee.
Many traditional events take place in this busy village throughout the year including the famous grape festival (Noche del Vino) in August and its Feria (Fair) during July .
The village is a 20-minute drive from the coast (Algarrobo Costa), and a 50 minute car journey to/from Malaga airport.
Its neighbouring, popular towns and villages of Torrox Pueblo, Frigiliana, Nerja, Velez Malaga and Rincon de La Victoria and of course Malaga city are all close by and accessible.

Well worth a trip . La Herradura is located in Costa Tropical. A lovely horse shoe shaped bay with lovely beaches and traditional beach restaurants, very different scenery. Around the next headland , stroll along the marina to look at the lovely boats.

La Maroma national park (2,065m). Hiking with breathtaking views. Guided walks recommended. as its a serious climb. Circular walk , 21 km takes around 6 hours. Personal health and Safety awareness essential; especially with regard to clothing and footwear and knowledge of the terrain and localized weather.
