Café / Restaurant right in the heart of the old village of Sendling, situated in an old farm house ("Stemmerhof") that was still in use right into the 1990s (hard to imagine nowadays). Today the old farm houses small shops and diners, right opposite the old village church. Tip: There's a terrace in an inner courtyard on the far end of the restaurant, that is much quieter than the one in front of the restaurant. It serves international / mediterranean as well as Bavarian food.

If you've had enough of the city and yearn for some scenic landscape, simply head for Tegernsee, a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. You can get there very easily by train (BOB --> see my tip "Harras") in 50 minutes. Gut Kaltenbrunn is a restaurant overlooking the lake. It's a bit up-market and draws a rather well-off crowd. But in fact it's not too expensive and the view is simply breathtaking. Get off the train at Gmund. From the station it's a scenic 15min walk through the village and along the lake.

The monumental Bavaria statue sits on top of a small hill overlooking the vast "Thereseinwiese", site of the famous Oktoberfest, but also of the "Tollwood" summer and winter festivals. Without the festivals Theresienwiese is a relatively grey and dusty place. But the Bavaria statue is a good place to bring a bottle of beer and take in the view of the city.

Entertainment & Activities
Open-air cinema from June to August. Films are predominantly in German. With the cinema comes a very nice beer garden with a less traditional, rather alternative character in the heart of Munich's graffiti spotlight. (You rather get a falafel instead of Bavarian pork roast.) Very relaxed, rather young crowd. Deck chairs and open fires give it a cosy atmosphere at night. Opening times: Weekdays from 6pm, weekends from 2pm
