1hr drive from Tekapo. If you have time this is a must do. Stunning scenery and some amazing walks.

Sightseeing and Cafe
You can drive up to Mt John though the road is only open certain days and times. There is a road toll though ($5 or $8) but the views are amazing and if you’re lucky the cafe will be open. The other option is to walk up. The track for this is just prior to the Hot Springs. It is a good hard slog of around 3/4 hr - 1hr up the hill.
