Food Scene
Bar Idda is my favourite place to eat in the neighbourhood. It typifies everything that is good about this area. Lovely airy room, great wine list, relaxed and competent staff but most of all - the food! Freddy, the owner and chef, has drawn from his Sicilian background and put his own smart modern twist on the dishes. Don't miss!

It's a cliche, but this guy IS the original & the best. Sparking the food truck scene in Melbourne with Beatbox Burgers (find them on Twitter & FB), he simply makes the best burgers. At this venue more American style. Also fried chicken, doughnuts and great breakfast.

My favourite pizza place in Melbourne. It's all they do! Fab toppings but its all about the crust - chewy, slightly sour and never limp! Try the 'Pizza for Michelle'. Yes, its named after me!!! Awesome desserts, salads & rock n roll atmosphere

Just a perfect cafe - Columbian classics adapted for a great Melbourne brunch. Lovely coffee, good sounds and fab decor. The kind of place that distinguishes Melbourne from other cities - I think. Don't miss.

211 Gertrude StMy favourite Thai place! Go for soups at lunchtime - dark, clear broths - quite distinctive. Good reasonably priced wine list. Wonderful salads and nice & weird cake options for dessert. There's a crazy toilet too - that squirts and blows hot air and so much more. Often a wait for tables (not sure of their booking policy). But they are open through the afternoon so if you go outside of mealtimes you can get a table straight away.

This is the guy who got the whole 'pizza wave' started in the early noughties with 'I Carusi' and now he can be found here - bringing 'it' to every pizza, pasta, etc. Real crowd pleaser. Everyone will enjoy it here.

Do not miss if you're in the city and want the best lo-fi dumpling option in town. All the dumplings are brilliant, steamed or fried. And I always go for a few vegetarian dishes because they nice and light and distinguish Shan Dong Mama other dumpling places.
