The Battle of Fort Velasco, fought June 26, 1832 was the first military conflict between Mexico and Texians in the Texas Revolution. It began when Texian Militia attacked Fort Velasco, located in what was then Velasco and what is now called Surfside Beach. Velasco Texas was the temporary capital of Texas in 1836.
