Food scene
The bagels are delicious and not just ‘good for mid Maine’ -- very good by any standard. They also make great baked goods, house-made cream cheese flavors, and iced chai from scratch. Bright and cheerful and popular, no indoor seating. 31 Water Street (207) 616-0876

Chock-full of Italian baked goodness. Dozens of cookies and cheesecakes and cannolis and bars fill their display cases, and their fridges are full of classic Italian meals. A spacious seating area and wi-fi makes this the alternative to Selah for a snack and work. 70 Main St (207) 877-7899

There’s not much Indian food in central Maine, and we’re lucky to have this one in Waterville!

Sightseeing
Once upon a time it was a toll bridge that cost two cents, now lovers of all sorts leave locks clamped to its sides for all eternity. It’s a nice walk across the Kennebec and a nice view of the town if you go up the path on the other side.

Miscellaneous Gems
A magical spot for knitters, sewers, and crafters of all kinds. When I first walked in here I was amazed at how much was hidden behind a small storefront. Knitting, sewing, upholstery, crafts of all sorts – it’s amazing!

There are only a few dedicated children’s bookstores left in the U.S., and we've got one here! Great selection of books, with a separate used bookstore (not just children's) downstairs.

Showing independent films and offering the best theater popcorn (real butter!), this cinema is moving to downtown Waterville in the next year or two. For now, the uncomfortable seats are more than made up for by the great films.
