There are so many great hikes in Redwood Regional, but one 3 mile loop (moderately strenuous) gives you a little of everything--forest, chaparral, views and streams. Start at the Trudeau Training Center on Skyline Blvd and head to the Dunn Trail. Take a right at the first fork and hike until you reach the Montiero Trail; go right. Take the next right onto the Golden Spike Trail. After you cross a creek, you will connect back the the Dunn Trail on the Serpentine Prairie, a beautiful meadow with serpentine rocks scattered through it. Then you're right back where you started! http://www.ebparks.org/Assets/_Nav_Categories/Parks/Maps/Redwood+map.pdf

Great coffee in an old bank building at the corner of Fruitvale Ave and International Blvd. The neighborhood is bustling and colorful and reminds me of Mexico.

This is a HUGE area of antique vendors that is super fun if you happen to be here on a first Sunday. Go early, at least before 10. Treasure hunting and great $5 clothes racks. Beautiful views of the SF skyline while you shop.

This is my choice for all around grocery store. Good organic selection and meats. Not far, but not around the corner. There is a Peet's across the street and a yummy bakery.

Iconic movie theater in the heart of the Lakeshore district. I think there is still a guy who plays wurlitzer organ before shows in the main theater Friday nights. Owner has good politics, often voiced on the marquis.

OMCA hosts a street party every Friday night. Grab a bite off a food truck, sit at a Bistro table and people watch, dance to a salsa or R&B band or visit the museum half price. It's a great place to spend a Friday evening in Oakland. Museum is half price, too!

Getting Around
This is the closest BART stop, our rapid transit system. It's a 10 minute drive or $8 Uber/Lyft ride. You can take the train to Fruitvale Station for some of the highlights I mentioned, Lake Merritt Station for the Lake, Oakland Museum and surrounding areas, and San Francisco and beyond. The inbound line is Fremont/Pleasanton/Warm Springs line. Outbound is either San Francisco (which bypasses downtown Oakland), Richmond and Pittsburg/Baypoint, which stop in downtown Oakland.
