I think this is the best Mexican in town and my brother, who eats Mexican food nearly daily raved about this place. It’s located with a view over the Tucson city lights. Order the “Machaca” short rib enchiladas and you’ll thank me later.

This is a “graduation, wedding, promotion, new baby” type of fancy restaurant. The food is amazing and if you want to really mark a special event this is the place you’ll want to take your friends or family. Don’t forget your purse or wallet, you’ll need it.

Lunchtime sushi place that offers a discount for lunch. I lived in Japan for 10 years. This is good, solid, reasonably priced sushi. We go here pretty often.

Sightseeing
1. Sabino Canyon Hike. This is a beautiful and relatively easy hike up through a canyon above the city. There is a paved road for an easy but beautiful hike and there are many branching, well-traveled dirt trails from easy to demanding. You’ll be close to the city, not far from people and able to experience a full dose of desert beauty. Please keep in mind that you’ll need $5 cash for parking in the parking lot. The Seven Falls trail is one of my favorites.

Don’t let the “museum” title throw you off. This is not boring or stuffy. It’s more like a gorgeous outdoor zoo showing off all of the animals and plants that this area has to offer. Go in the late afternoon and you’ll witness the changing colors of the desert as the sun goes down.

Tombstone & Bisbee day trip. If you are looking for a really nice day trip, drive to Benson, south to Tombstone where the gunfight at the OK Corral happened. They have been restaging that 30-second gunfight for decades and it’s kept the town alive. After spending some time walking the main street drive to Bisbee and have a lunch at the Copper Queen Hotel. Bisbee is a quaint gold-rush era mining town. If you have time, drive north to the Chiricahua mountains to see some amazing stacked rock monuments. If you’re short on time, come back home and stream the movie “Tombstone” on TV. It’s my favorite western of all time with Kurt Russell.
