Sightseeing

There is a great little hike you can take that starts right at the house, leads you down a scenic bush trail to the Tegula Creek dike, which you can follow back into town and all the way to the little park and pier where it enters the Lake. This hike takes about 30-60 min depending on how much your loiter around. It's not stroller accessible but certainly could be done with baby carriers.

The Village of Dunnottar Bird Watching Group meets regularly on Sundays at 8:30 am at the Whtyewold Emporium where they get coffee and then head out to various bird watching sites. The Netley-Liabu marsh on the south end of Lake Winnipeg is an international IBA (Important Bird Area) and countless species migrate through Matlock and the surrounding areas. The birdwatching group is led by local Charlie McPherson, who's family was among the first to settle the in the area and who is passionate not just about the birds, but also the health of Lake Winnipeg. This is a fun and casual morning! New birders welcome! No experience needed. A great way to sightsee and learn more about the area. Find this group on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/309122869436079 or just search "Dunnottar Bird Watch". This is a public group. Let them know you want to join on Sunday. Sometime they meet elsewhere than the Emporium so be sure to check in with them!
