Visit the birthplace of King Kamehameha I up north on the Kohala coast. The farming town features dining, local shops, Pololu valley and amazing views. During the winter months, you might see humpback whales breaching along the coastline only a few hundred yards from the highway.

Higher elevations make Waimea a pastoral paradise and a bit of a breather from the heat. The green hills make this town a perfect place for cattle ranches with plenty of shops, restaurants and sites to see. You might even find chameleons in the bushes and trees over by Waimea coffee company.

Up north, visit the old town of Honka'a. Old sugar cane plantations are abundant and take a drive down into Waipio Valley to see the 2nd tallest waterfall in the world. Wild horses and a black sand beach are nestled in this stunning valley. You will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle though.
