A lovely pub with fantastic chef. Their terrine of the day is invariably excellent, and the daily specials are always worth trying. Fish and chips is fabulous but huge!

Not only a preserve shop (although their jams are delicious) but also a well loved cafe in Gatehouse of Fleet. Delicious breakfasts, cakes and lunches. Very Scottish offerings include haggis and sweet chilli melt and macaroni cheese! The cakes are wonderful. Baby friendly.

Listed by The Herald as the best Thai restaurant in Scotland - by far the best I’ve ever tasted. Check their Facebook for details of their pop-up restaurant at the golf course. Takeaways are fabulous but sought after: you need to book a slot about a week in advance.
I especially recommend pork pad Thai, the deliciously spicy Tom Yum and the red curry!

A must see: there’s currently an exhibition on the Galloway Hoard (booking essential). Newly opened in 2018, the gallery space itself is beautiful. There’s also a lovely cafe (we understand the food there is supplied by the Selkirk).

A fascinating hodge podge of interesting bits. Reminds us of Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford (if you’re familiar).

Quite a steep walk but an amazing view at the top. 1hr
About an hour’s drive. Gorgeous views of Loch Trool and a location of historical significance. Lots of nice walks, our favourite goes around the Loch and takes 3-4hrs.
