The Ponce de Leon Inlet is a natural opening in the barrier islands in central Florida that connects the north end of the Mosquito Lagoon and the south end of the Halifax River to the Atlantic Ocean.
Ponce Inlet offers incredible fishing opportunities due to its unique location on a barrier island, with both inland and Atlantic fishing available in the Halifax River, Indian River, and ocean.
New Smyrna Beach also serves as the focal point of Floridian surfing. To the north end of New Smyrna, two jetties jut into the sea, protecting the Ponce de Leon inlet and creating waves on either side.
Like most estuaries, Ponce pumps sand into the lineup creating more than a few sandbars for surfers to pick off peaks like fish in a barrel.
