Burger Hill is a quick 1 min drive. It’s a large and steep hill with beautiful 360 degree views at the top that stretch from the Berkshires to the Catskills. In the winter we like to come here with sleds and in the warmer months we like to picnic here.

City/Town
Rhinebeck is an extremely sweet and historic town. The main part of town are Market and Montgomery streets, which intersect and it is very easy to stroll and enjoy.
While the town is relatively small there are numerous different restaurants and cuisines to choose from, a magical toy store, incredible book shop to get lost in, small movie theater and other interesting shops and delights.

Just over on the other side of the river, Kingston has three distinct commercial/city areas to roam and enjoy. There is Uptown (or the Stokade district) Midtown and Downtown (also known as 'The Rondout').
In the Stockade District there are lots of restaurants, vintage stores and quirky shops. Our favorite thing to do here is visit Rough Draft, an independent book store with coffee and beer options. And then stroll the distinctly old and historic feeling town.
For late night drink and meal plans try: Stockage Tavern, 10 Crown Street or Wilde Beest.
In midtown, our favorite place is Village Coffee. They have a great creative and seasonally changing menu and great coffee as well. On top of good food they also sell ceramics, pantry items, veggies and flowers from local farms and more. It’s such an interesting shop that we sometimes go to Kingston just for Village.
Also check out a show at the Ulster County Center for the Performing Arts or for dinner and cocktails try Lis Bar.
As a side note, Kingston also has amazing street art all over the city making just walking around very enjoyable.
The Rondout is a beautiful and charming part of Kingston. You can walk along the canal down at the base and feed the geese. There are picnic benches and sometimes there are markets set up in the middle of where the picnic benches are. There is a steep hill from the canal that you can walk up that holds several great retail shops (my personal favorites being Clove and Creek and Hops Petunia) as well as Brunette Wine Bar, a beautiful wine bar and several other shops and restaurants.
Also downtown is Kingston Point Park where there is a small beach you can go and swim in.
