Hammarstrand is located in the midst of many nature tracks and points of interest. The village has two grocery shops, one petrol station, a pharmacy, a few restaurants and some local shops. There is a medieval church, a ski slope, beautiful cross country tracks and a chair lift.
The village has an interesting history since it has been built on the bottom of former lake Ragunda which was drained in Sweden's biggest natural disaster resulting in a dead waterfall called Döda fallet 10 minutes from Hammarstrand. You can walk on the old waterfall, there are many beautiful hiking trails.

Döda Fallet is the result of Sweden's biggest natural disaster. In 1796 Rafunda lake was drained due to an engineering mistake. In four hours the whola lake was emptied causing a destructive wave. Miraculously there were no fatalities. Drained of its water the Big falls turned into the Dead falls. Nowadays Döda Fallet is a popular tourist attraction. You can walk through the former waterfall and enjoy a hike in the adjoining nature reserve.

He was a beloved and admired king not least because he initiated the abolition of slavery in his homeland. King Chulalongkorn was the fifth king in his family and was therefore called Rama V Chulalonkorn by Siam. King Chulalongkorn was committed to developing his homeland and he worked actively to give the country a modern structure, which took him on trips around the world. Every summer, the king's arrival in Utanede is celebrated on 19 July. Special guests from Thailand visit the Pavilion that day, there are dance groups and you can eat thay food.

Ragunda's Old Church was built in the 15th century, and its interior dates from the 17th century. There is a wooden bell tower as well as the stone medieval church.
