This still inhabited medieval monastery of St.Francis and the surrounding ancient beech forests are a must-see.
Just 1.5 hour walk from the property. At the Sanctuary there is a giftshop and a pilgrim canteen which offers a great fixed menu for a very reasonable price. There is also a great restaurant outside the Sanctuary near the carpark which offers fresh pasta and local delicacies such as truffles and porcini.

‘The forest of the fairies’ is an ancient beech forest which has been protected by the monks of La Verna for centuries. A must-see when visiting the area. Prepare to be enchanted and watch out for the elves and fairies lurking behind the moss covered rocks and ‘ice caves’!
