Sightseeing
This is our hidden gem. It's where the Rio Grand rift canyon begins to open up to the south. Turn left after crossing the bridge (if driving east towards Antonito, CO) and follow the road along the river. We can tell you how to get to a beach area, and where to find the petroglyphs carved into the basalt. You can fish, crawfish, make a fire and roast marshmallows, or just enjoy laying on the river beach listening to the trickle of the Rio Grande.

The Wild Rivers Recreation Area is located within the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument and along the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River and Red River Wild and Scenic River. Here visitors may experience the beauty of an 800-foot deep canyon sliced into volcanic flows by the Rio Grande (Spanish for Great River) and Red River where they come together. Sometimes the visitor center isn't open but the trails are always open! Beautiful hiking, great fishing, inspiring views.
